Organizing Recurring Events & Parties - Simplified
Posted on March, 10 at 8:08 pm
With current launch, planning recurring events & parties have been simplied to a great extent. Following is the scenario that I have faced in my recent past:
Prior to funpiper.com, I worked in a startup, Cendura Software that later got acquired by Computer associates. In those 4 years, I developed some very good friendship with my colleagues. This was mainly due to the fact that we were small company (India office) and knew each other very well. After acquisition of Cendura, we decided to move to different paths, as expected. However, that didn’t hamper our friendship and we remained in touch.
For catching up with each other, we decided to have a get together every 6 months at least at some place in the city or at one of our residences (If vacant).
To do this, we have been using our email boxes, and same email chain is used for every get together. We are comfortable in usage of email boxes for this. However, by doing this we unknowingly lose on following:
- Going back and referring to messages exchanged for planning get together, just for fun!
- Keeping track of who was present and who was not present in the last get together
- Planning a new get together quickly as we have to again search for email chain and invite friends
- Capturing photos of get together and sharing with our other colleagues
- Keeping a note of jokes and gossips we shared on last get together
- Informing everyone about changes in venue, date, timing in quick manner
Now, all of above could be acheived by using funpiper.com in following manner:
- Going back and referring..This could be acheived by having personalize event page where all messages are posted. This event page could be accessed easily at any time.
- Keeping track of who…This is made possible by personalized page that consist of informantion about RSVP
- Planning a new get together…This is simplified by creating “Cendura India” group of the friends and posting get together event to this group. All members get notified.
- Capturing photos of get…Photos could be uploaded on event page. Event page could be shared easily.
- Keeping a note of jokes…This is simplified by providing a “Broadcast Party from your mobile phone by sending SMS to event page.”
- Informing everyone about…This is made simple by enabling invitees to send email/SMS from event page, all for FREE!
We look forward to your suggestions and comments on funpiper.com. Feel free to drop us an email at info@funpiper.com .
Stay tuned for more. Cheers!

Including More Cities and Events & Parties Venues
Posted on March, 7 at 7:59 pm
We have recently included more cities and added fun venues to them. This is done as part of our localization strategy and we will be adding venues and cities at regular intervals. Here, I would like to reiterate the reasoning behind building up localization platform in parallel. We are doing this because we firmly believe that our users will be able to plan their events, & parties in their cities in a smooth manner if they are informed about events happening in various venues and also deals and offers in various venues. For an instance, if you like to decide a cocktail party in a pub, and get the best offer from a pub in your city in terms of say, “10% discount when you are 10 in number”, one would be best placed to take the decision right on the spot, and plan the party right away using event planning tool. There could be so many such instances where localization content would come very handy while planning party or events.
Cities that we added recently are following:
- Agra
- Cochin
- Patna
- Ludhiana
- Vizag
- Trivandrum
- Ranchi
Stay tuned for more. Cheers!

Groups + Events & Parties = Fun
Posted on March, 5 at 10:27 pm
We have been innovating for quite a while on How to provide our users with intuitive tools & services such that they really feel “Great” & “Fun” while spending time on our portal.
In doing above, we have just added features such as “Upcoming” and “Preferences” to all groups. The idea behind this is to allow users to set preferences for various personal parties & events through out the year to get alerted in advance (mobile/email), plan parties (surprise parties) and get the facilities such as having personalized party page, reaching out to group members easily (mobile), interacting on the page, broadcasting the fun on the party day, uploading photos etc. We are in the process of including festivals and other events in the “preferences” section.
Stay tuned for more. Cheers!

Fun Itinerary helps you plan intuitively while you search for Local Venues!
Posted on January, 19 at 6:10 am
Recently launched “Fun Itinerary” helps to include fun activities as a list of related venues while you search for venues in various category in your cities. Once done, you could publish this fun itinerary as an event in form of a personalized event page. This feature is launched keeping following scenario in mind:
1. Say, on one of the weekend, you want to go out for having lunch. Following is how “Fun Card” feature helps you:
- Set Event Category as Weekend, select Restaurant as a venue category and search.
- You get results for restaurants in your city. You shorten the list by searching restaurants for a specific area.
- Once you have selected a couple of “close-by” restaurants, it struck you that you would also like to go to close-by amusement park.
- You search for “close-by” amusement park, thereby including the amusement park in your Fun itinerary. Then, you thought why not also go to movie.
- You search “close-by” Cinema Halls to the already selected amusement park, and selected few of them.
- Once done, you publish the Fun Itinerary, consisting of one or more venues as an event and share it with your family and friends. The venues represent the fun activities that you will be doing as part of your plan.
In this way, with launch of “Fun Itinerary”, Funpiper.com wants to help users to plan their fun outings in an intuitive manner.
Let me know what you think. Your feedback will be deeply appreciated.

We are very happy to announce the release of the mobile messaging version using which users could quickly plan events by sending SMS invitations and messages to the invitees for FREE from their personalized event page. With the latest launch, users could do following:

2. Invite friends and family members by sending SMS invitations as well as email invitation from the event page. SMS invitation comes handy when one wants to plan a quick event.
3. Invitees could respond to the invitation by sending SMS in the following format:

y stands for yes. n for no and u for unsure. Also, fun2s is pronounced as funtoos.
4. Send regular updates and notifications to event invitees by sending SMS or email notifications from the event page. SMS notifications does not require invitee to necessarily stick to their email.

These messages appear on the event page.
6. Moderator and invitees could broadcast the event live on the day of event by sending SMS in the following format:

NOTE: To be able to send messages from mobile phones, invitees need to make a visit to the event page and register their mobile phones by clicking on the link ‘Register Mobile’.
Going forward, we are integrating user accounts with their twitter account. With this, users get a dual benefit of broadcasting event proceedings not only on their event page but also on their twitter account.

Event planning complemented by Mobile Messaging…Coming!
Posted on October, 20 at 10:01 am
Organizing events using mobile phones could really make whole process of event planning quick, easier and fun. Check out following scenario:
You are working in a big IT company and your team consists of 15 people. On thursday, it is decided that the team would go out for project party on Friday afternoon. In normal scenario, you send out an email for choice of venues. People reply back with their options. Then, you finalize the event based on some form of polling. Then you shoot out the email informing about the venues. People gather at the venue and have fun. Some of the questions are:
1. If any one takes a snap, are those snaps shared promptly?
2. If any one wants to keep the memoirs of the party, is there a way? Messages were exchanged as emails which gets lost after you leave the job.
3. Could there be possibility that these friends/colleagues could meet after say 1 year for a reunion? This could be fun if it is possible as people would have different things to share!
4. Is there a place where videos are shared? As every mobile phone today as video taking capability?
Here is what you could do using funpiper.com event planner (assuming mobile messaging is live):
1. Create an event - private project party, send invitation to all team members using sms. Include these team members as an event group.
2. Include one or more venues and throw venues for poll.
3. People log on to event page and vote for the venues.
4. Finalize the venue and send sms for venue, timings etc.
5. People post their quick queries to every one by sending sms to event page which is accessible to event invitees.
6. Once party gets over, users could upload the pictures on event page and send sms for people to check out.
7. People post their opinion, comments, experience on the event pages.
8. After sometime, you have an easy option to again tossing an idea of a casual party with the same event group by sending sms from same event page.
That was just a simple example. This becomes more relevant when people are working in different companies, and different locations and need to organize events such as casual parties, cocktail parties in short notice.
Mobile messaging for event planning is scheduled to go live within next 15-20 days. Stay tuned for the updates.
